Privacy

Information we collect

• Account and security information: your email address, your phone number, account identifier, authentication and session records, verification activity, and security or abuse-prevention signals. Select does not store your password in readable form; Supabase Auth manages credentials. If you choose Continue with Apple or Continue with Google, Apple or Google tells Select your name, your email address (with Apple you may choose a private relay address instead) and an account identifier, and Google may also share a link to your Google profile picture. Select does not receive your Apple or Google password, and does not use your Apple or Google name or picture on your SELECT profile.
• Profile information: your first name, date of birth and resulting age, broad location, gender and who you want to meet, profile answers, photos, and photo-framing information.
• Activity: comparisons shown to you, your selections, Favorites, profile submissions and review decisions, participation state, consent records, and—when those features become available—finalist and Black Book activity.
• Technical information: IP address, browser and device information, timestamps, request logs, cookies, local storage and similar information used to deliver and protect the service.
• Messages to us: information you include when you contact Select.

How we use information

We use information to authenticate accounts, create and review profiles, show comparisons, record selections, calculate user-specific product results, operate account controls, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, protect users and improve Select.

Your selections also shape which profiles are shown, to you and to others. For example, someone you selected may be more likely to see your profile in their own comparisons. No one is told how you rated them.

Select's reviewers see what you submit for review, including your original photo, so they can approve it or request changes.

To make photos appear quickly, photos of your upcoming comparisons may be kept in your browser for up to 24 hours. They are removed when you log out.

We do not sell personal information. Select does not use third-party behavioral advertising.

What other users can see

After human review and approval, the information included on the approved comparison card and approved profile photo may be shown to eligible participants. Your phone number, date of birth, account credentials, private photo source, exact selection history and review records are not part of the ordinary comparison card.

During the beta, some of the profiles you compare are fictional test profiles created by Select.

Contact sharing is not currently available. If it is activated later, it will follow the explanation and consent presented at that time. Select will not treat this notice as permission to disclose a phone number.

Service providers

Email: Select sends email only to confirm your account and to deliver password-reset links you request. Select does not send marketing email and does not send text messages.

Select uses service providers to operate the product, including Vercel for hosting, Supabase for authentication, account emails, database and storage services, Cloudflare Turnstile for abuse prevention, and Apple or Google when you choose to sign in with them. They process information as needed to provide their services and under their own applicable terms and privacy notices.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect a person from harm, investigate abuse, or protect Select's rights and systems.

Storage and retention

Select keeps information for as long as reasonably needed to operate the service, protect its integrity, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations. Records such as profile revisions, comparison assignments, selections, review decisions and consent history may be retained so the service does not rewrite what occurred.

Closing an account stops ordinary participation and sign-in. It is not the same as immediate erasure of every retained record. You may request access, correction or deletion review by emailing support@mateselection.org. We may need to verify that the requester controls the account, and some records may be retained where reasonably necessary or legally permitted.

Your choices

• Edit your profile and submit changes for review.
• Pause or resume participation from Account.
• Withdraw prospective contact-sharing permission where that control is available.
• Close your account or contact us about an access, correction or deletion request.
• Clear Guest history stored in your browser by clearing site data.

Security and age

Select uses technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect personal information, but no online service can promise absolute security. Please use a unique password and contact us if you suspect unauthorized account activity.

Select is for adults age 18 and older. We do not knowingly permit people under 18 to create participant accounts.

Changes and contact

We may update this notice as Select changes. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be presented through the service when appropriate.
